Contract Description:
This project, managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), seeks to develop and implement a process that augments data from existing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) programs to identify factors limiting desired performance (e.g., productivity and abundance) and inform recovery actions directed at salmon and steelhead populations in the Upper Columbia River basin (UCR).

This contract covers WDFW’s management and oversight of the following field activities:
1.    Application and tracking of radio tags to measure adult spring Chinook prespawn mortality in the Wenatchee River basin.
2.    Estimation of escapement and prespawn mortality for spring Chinook Salmon using a PIT tag-based patch occupancy model. CY 24-25 will
represent the final year of PIT tag-based patch occupancy modeling before fully transitioning to radio telemetry.
3.    Operation of a juvenile smolt trap within the Entiat River to capture and PIT tag juvenile spring Chinook and steelhead outmigrants and
estimate abundance, productivity, smolt-to-adult return rates, and support ongoing survival studies (Comparative Survival Study).

The contract also provides for project management, administration, coordination, data analysis, and status and final reporting. The final report deliverable for 2010-034-00 is provided under this contract.

PIT array O&M activities reflected in previous contracts under this project have transitioned to project #2018-002-00.
